WHAT IS DTF PRINTING 

The Most Versatile Decoration Method Available

Direct-to-film (DTF) printing is a decoration process where your design is printed onto a special film using full-colour inkjet ink, then transferred to the garment using heat and pressure. The result is a smooth, vibrant, full-colour print that bonds directly to the fabric fibres.

Unlike screen printing, DTF requires no screens or colour separations — making it ideal for complex artwork, photographic designs, and small quantities where screen printing setup costs would be prohibitive. Unlike DTG printing, DTF works on virtually any fabric including polyester, nylon, and blended performance fabrics.

Is there a minimum order for DTF printing?

No — CCA accepts single-piece DTF orders with no minimums and no setup fees. Perfect for one-off gifts, replacement pieces, samples, or anyone who needs just one custom item done right.

What file formats work best for DTF printing?

High-resolution PNG files with a transparent background at 300 DPI or higher are ideal. Vector files in AI, EPS, or PDF format also work perfectly. Avoid low-resolution files — blurry artwork produces blurry prints. JPEG files are accepted but not recommended as they don't support transparency.

Can DTF print on dark garments?

Yes — DTF printing includes a white ink underlayer automatically, making it excellent for printing on black, navy, and other dark garments at no extra cost. No underbase setup required.

Does DTF work on polyester and performance fabrics?

Yes — DTF works on cotton, polyester, nylon, blended fabrics, and most performance wear. This makes it ideal for athletic uniforms, jerseys, and activewear that screen printing and embroidery can't always handle effectively.

Is DTF the same as DTG (direct-to-garment)?

No — DTG prints directly onto garments using inkjet technology and works best on 100% cotton only. DTF prints onto a film first and then transfers to the garment using heat, making it compatible with a much wider range of fabrics. CCA offers DTF, not DTG.

How durable is DTF printing?

DTF prints are highly durable when cared for properly. Wash inside out in cold water on a gentle cycle. Avoid bleach and high heat. Hang to dry or tumble dry on low. Do not iron directly on the print. With proper care, DTF prints maintain their vibrancy for years.
